There’s nothing better than a wedding vendor who overflows with passion for what they do… Emmerentia van den Hoven is one of those vendors – her wedding stationery company Oh Yay! is 100% her passion, and it shows not only in her work but in her joy of speaking about it.
Here’s what she had to say about the joy of designing wedding stationery:
1. What do you offer to those planning their weddings?
I’m all about those moments that make you say “Oh Yay!” That’s why I specialise in invitation and stationery design for all special events. I offer bespoke designs, uniquely designed for your special day, or you can choose from a portfolio of stationery collections.
2. What makes your wedding invites different?
I have a big passion for design as well as a big passion for people, that’s why I love what I do! I love trying to figure out how I can visually showcase the personality of the bridal couple through design. Because each bride doesn’t just want any pretty wedding invitation, they want a pretty invitation that reflects who they are.
3. Why did you choose to focus on weddings?
I worked in the advertising industry for a few years and although I always knew I loved design, I wasn’t sure that I had found my calling yet. That was until I got married myself and designed all the elements of my wedding and loved every moment of it! I knew there was no turning back and in that same year I took a chance and started Oh Yay!
4. What advice do you have for brides who are planning their weddings?
I think the most important thing is to make a list of everything you have to do for the wedding and give yourself deadlines for it. You want to enjoy the whole process, and the only way to make it stress free is if you give yourself enough time to do it and of course try to focus on one thing at a time.
5. My favourite part of a wedding is…
I love the first dance! I think it’s because that’s the part that really shows the personality of the bridal couple. The choice of song and the way they dance tells a lot about them.
6. I love weddings because…
It’s the happiest day of someone’s life – and if you are invited it means you are part of that special moment.
7. My number one tip for wedding stationery is…
Try to keep your invite wording short and beautiful. It makes me sad if a beautiful invite gets cluttered with an overflow of unnecessary added copy.
8. My favourite wedding trend with stationery is…
I love the fact that stationery is not so traditional and formal anymore. A lot of brides want to have fun with their stationery… And that makes me have a lot of fun too!
There you have it – wedding stationery infused with enthusiasm, and a sense of Oh Yay!
Until next time!
