• Jules Morgan is an extraordinary Cape Town based photographer who manages to catch those moments between the posed moments at weddings… You know, the ones we all want caught on film without having to tell someone to look out for them! She has a natural, honest style to her photography that I just love – she documents rather than poses. Let’s find out what her top tips are for wedding photography.

    1. What do you offer to those planning their weddings?

I offer a personalised photography service where I aim to photograph each wedding differently and not just churn out shoots. My goal is to be a subtle presence that conveys people’s stories rather than trying to create my own vision for people.

???2. What makes Jules Morgan Photography different??

I take on a selected amount of weddings per season so I’m excited to shoot weddings. My style is unconventional without being over-the-top and I place emphasis on capturing emotion in my photographs.

    3. Why did you choose to focus on weddings?? ?

I started working at a portrait studio and the weddings stemmed from there. I had always thought that I would hate shooting weddings, but I actually love being part of such a beautiful occasion, and thrive on the fast-paced nature of a wedding day.

    4. What advice do you have for brides who are planning their weddings?? ?

Try and get everything into place as much as possible before your wedding day, and then relax and enjoy every second without worrying if everything is perfect. The most beautiful weddings happen when the bride is having fun as it rubs off on the guests. If I had to have my wedding over again, I would spend more on beautiful music to create a great atmosphere.
In terms of photography, I always tell my clients to leave lots of time between the ceremony and reception so that they can enjoy some canapes with their guests and see people for a bit before rushing off for photos. That way we also get softer light in the bright Cape summers.

    5. My favourite part of a wedding is…?

Before the wedding ceremony. The bride getting into her dress and capturing that excitement, the dad seeing his daughter looking amazing – there is so much excitement and nervousness and anticipation which is amazing to be around.

    6. I love weddings because…

I get to meet and interact with the most amazing people and families and be intimately involved in one of the most special days of their lives. The fact that everyone is happy and in love and celebratory is a bonus.

    7. My number one tip for wedding photography is…??

To find a wedding photographer whose style you adore, tell them what is most important to you and then just trust them to do what they love doing.

??8. My favourite wedding trend with photography is…??

A documentary approach. The cheesy, staid poses are becoming a thing of the past.

I love that each of her weddings have their own unique look, while still maintaining that ‘Jules Morgan’ style… Beautiful.

    Until next time!
    Much love,
    Bridget
