Yes, they exist! It is possible to have an ice-cream tasting hen party, even if that sounds too good to be true. Better yet, it’s possible to have an ice-cream tasting hen party at The Creamery, where the finest handmade ice cream in Cape Town (and possibly South Africa, and possibly the world) is made.
The Creamery is a little slice of ice-cream heaven. Run by the lovely Kate Schrire, they make all-natural, all-local, 90%-organic ice-cream from real ingredients, and it tastes incredible. We popped over for an ice-cream tasting, and to find out what an ice-cream tasting hen party might look like (and, let’s be honest, to stare at that fresh ice-cream coming straight out of the magic machine!)
Kate holds ice-cream tastings for anything from 12 to 20 people, at R100 per person. This includes two pints of their fabulous ice-cream (at R45 a pint, so you’re paying R10 for tasting 9 flavours – what a steal!) She’ll give you a little background on The Creamery, the ingredients they use, and the ice-cream making process, and you can either sit inside in their ice-cream factory in Woodstock (a lovely spot that can easily be decorated with bunting and fairy lights, as you wish) or on the stoep outside.
What’s so remarkable about The Creamery – aside from the ice cream, of course! – is their sense of fun and adventure when it comes to creating flavours. In fact, Kate said that customisable flavours are available on request, which means that you could create a flavour of ice-cream specifically for your hen party, and have the labels customised as well. Hello, Best Present Ever!
The tasting itself is such a treat: nine flavours of their best ice-cream, a mix of popular flavours, limited edition and seasonal fruit flavours. You can talk, and ask questions, choose which flavours to take home, and most of all indulge in some seriously delicious ice-cream while spending time with your besties.
Kate suggests a Friday afternoon or Saturday morning for ice-cream tastings, and as the whole thing only takes an hour to an hour and a half, it’s perfect if you have lots of friends with babies (they can get away for that long!) or as part of a whole day of fun – this is the ideal ‘dessert’ part of the day.
Ready to hear what we tasted? Honey rosemary, salted caramel, farm cream, strawberry, banana and candied walnut, lemon curd, peanut butter, 65% chocolate and Ethiopian coffee. Oh my! It was deeeeeelicious. Smooth, creamy, rich, fresh and often surprising. Seriously the best ice-cream I’ve tasted.
If you’re looking for the sweetest hen party around, check out The Creamery. And please invite me along!
Until next time!
