India is one of those countries I want to visit in the finest style – kind of like an empress, in fact. Riding in on an elephant, if possible. So I thought it was the perfect spot to do a little daydreaming around a fantasy honeymoon… Let’s pop into the Oberoi Grand in Kolkata, shall we?
Fondly referred to as the Grand Dame of Chowringhee (because that’s obviously a much easier name to remember!) this hotel is the ‘ultimate classical residence in the City of Joy’. It’s 125 years old, and a combination of classical Victorian and traditional Indian architecture, so your holiday pics would be incredible.
Laze in the pool, indulge in a spa treatment with traditional Indian techniques or explore the shopping districts of Kolkata, right nearby. You can also take in some of the culture of Kolkata – cinema, poetry, music and art.
Interestingly, it’s also one of the few places you can see remnants of the British Raj – a fascinating trip down memory lane if you have an interest in history…
Of course, the Indian cuisine is another highlight, and one that I would feel safe indulging in if I were staying in this exotic haven! Samoosas, curries, chapattis, rotis, breyani – bring it on… Yum.
I think it looks wonderfully OTT and lavish, and I would happily while away a few days on fantasy honeymoon being fanned by palm leaves, sipping on milky tea, and hopefully having an elephant on hand to carry my (no doubt excessive) shopping home for me!
What do you think – Indian honeymoon on the cards?
Until next time!
