I was lucky enough to spend some time in the picturesque Nature’s Valley area of the Cape recently, and I scouted out a stunning wedding venue in The Crags (next to Nature’s Valley) while I was there. May I introduce Kurland Hotel?

Venue: There are three options to choose from with regards to where exactly you want to get married and celebrate.
Option 1 involves hiring out the whole hotel, which means you get access to the grounds with no venue fee. They deck out the verandah for canapés and drinks, you can set up a band in the corner, and a bar near the swimming pool, with a stretch tent over one of the prettiest sections of the garden. The ceremony can be anywhere you like, but there are a number of churches nearby, or (the most popular choice) Nature’s Valley beach is a pristine stretch of beach only 8km away.
Option 2 is Katarina’s, the relaxed bistro restaurant on the grounds. You can get married on the lawn in front of the restaurant, with a stretch tent sheltering your guests, set up tables on the verandah and a dance floor inside. It’s intimate and charming, and is fast becoming the most popular choice for brides in the area.
Option 3 is the Rolls Royce option – the Pavilion, a beautiful white creation in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by forests and polo fields. You can land in a helicopter or – wait for it – a hot air balloon, and hold the reception inside or under a tent.
Style: A charming colonial country lodge – overflowing with charm, and fresh cut roses. The property surrounding the Cape Dutch style houses just keeps going, with rolling fields, lush green grass and happy horses in their prime, as far as the eye can see. And it’s a Relais & Chateaux property, so you know it’s the best of the best.
Distance from/to major city/closest airport: Plettenberg Bay is the nearest city and is only 20 minutes away, the George airport is about an hour and 15 minutes away.
Capacity: That depends on the option you choose – option 1 has no limit because you create the space you’ll celebrate in. Option 2 (Katarina’s) can comfortably seat 130, and option 3 can seat up to 600 people. Yowzers!
Food: Fresh, seasonal and sophisticated country dining – full of flavour and panache. The menu is tailored to suit your tastes and your budget, so it’s entirely up to you. They also include a 1am braai, with steak sandwiches, boerewors, lamb chops etc – a fantastic idea to keep the party going!
What’s included: Depending on the number of guests, either everything is included (tables, chairs, tablecloths etc) or just ask and they’ll arrange for the necessary items to be hired. There’s an on-site spa for manicures, pedicures and massages the day before the wedding (or the day after!) and they have a database of wedding co-ordinators with plenty of local contacts.
What you’ll love about it: The team at Kurland is extremely accommodating and will do all they can to make your wedding dreams a reality. And the setting is just stunning – an absolute dream.
What’s missing: There’s only accommodation for a max of 48 people on-site, so you might have to help guests with finding places to stay in the area.
If you’re looking for a sophisticated country wedding venue, check out Kurland Hotel… I’m sure you’ll love it.
Until next time!
