If you’re looking for a beautiful venue to have a relaxed, natural wedding, might I suggest The Farmhouse Hotel in Langebaan? We spent a day and a night there recently and I thought it was simply stunning… You could really make it your own and have the most amazing wedding here. Want to know all the facts? Here goes:

Venue:? The Farmhouse Hotel is a sprawling farmhouse on the shores of the Langebaan Lagoon. It’s all white walls and West Coast style, with amazing views of the lagoon from every window and verandah. There are a number of areas to choose from for both the wedding and the reception: the most popular are the Celebration Area for small weddings (the view is to die for), the Main Dining Room and Outside Verandah for receptions, and The Aged Old Bell for outdoor ceremonies. But The Farmhouse is all about tailor-making your perfect day, so feel free to go for a visit and see which area feels right for you…

Style: It’s all relaxed and rustic here at The Farmhouse, with beautiful natural decor like seashell chandeliers and woven lanterns. It’s a little old-fashioned, but in the best possible way – the building has so much character that there’s no need to dress it up with draping and decorations. It’s perfect as is.

Capacity: ?The Function Room holds 65, with 40 in the Main Dining Room, so a maximum of about 100 people. The verandah is covered by a tent to protect it from the wind, and is often used as a dance floor – perhaps one of the most beautiful dance floors you could wish for, with its views out over the sunset on the lagoon!

    Food:?
The Farmhouse Hotel specialises in traditional West Coast food: homemade chicken pies, lamb shank, pumpkin fritters, snoek pate and Velddrift potato salad, to name a few. They have a number of options to choose from, everything from buffets with cold and hot starters, salads, main course, veg and desserts to fine dining set menus. This is tasty, wholesome food that isn’t trying to confuse anyone’s palate – it just tastes good.

What’s included:? There are a number of wedding packages to choose from, or you can work with the lovely Sarilize Schwulst, the in-house wedding planner (whose nickname is not Smiley for nothing!) to create a package that suits you. The venue rate includes all the hiring, and they have a list of recommended service providers for cakes, ministers, make-up and photography. Venue hire is very reasonable, especially if you’re looking to have a smaller wedding, and what sets The Farmhouse apart is that you don’t have to hire out the whole hotel if you want to have your wedding there – you can just hire a section of it.

There are also all kinds of beautiful extras to hire, like silver chandeliers and serviette rings. Essentially, they can help you make the venue look exactly as you wish – and all with the greatest of ease.

Accommodation options:? There are 17 spacious and comfortable rooms on the premises, two of them family rooms, and loads of accommodation within walking distance. The Farmhouse offers a 20% discount on accommodation when the hotel is booked out, and continental breakfast is included. The bride and groom get a complimentary honeymoon suite in the wedding package, including romantic turndown, sparkling wine and rose petals… Just the right way to start off life together!

Distance from Cape Town:? Best of all, although The Farmhouse feels like it’s far away from the hustle and bustle of the city, it’s actually just over an hour from Cape Town, on the outskirts of the town of Langebaan.

What you’ll love about it:? It’s all in one place: there’s an on-site spa to get you looking and feeling great for your big day, the ceremony and reception can both happen at the hotel, and you can take your photographs on the edge of the lagoon (a 5 minute walk away and ridiculously pretty, as you can see from these pics!)

What’s missing:? If you’re looking for an uber-glam fairy princess wedding, this is not the place for you. It’s comfortable and lovely, but not fancy.

Of course, this is also Flower Country, so can you imagine how beautiful it would be to have your wedding pictures among a million wildflowers in August and September? I love The Farmhouse Hotel as a cosy winter wedding venue, with crackling fires in all the rooms, but I love it just as much as a stunning summer wedding, dancing under the stars… As you can see, this is one loveable farmhouse.

    Until next time!
    Much love,
    Bridget
