We met many many moons ago – this past February, we celebrated our ten year “anniversary”! I had just matriculated and was about to start university and Rob was in his second year when we met. We dated throughout university and the years that followed, Rob then popped the big question in September 2010.
My dress was made by Robyn Roberts. I had a vague idea of what I wanted my dress to look like but it was never set in stone and I was definitely open to suggestions. After trying on what felt like hundreds of dresses and feeling more confused than ever (they were all so beautiful in their own way), I finally found “the one”! I knew the moment I put it on, it was what I’d been looking for – clean and classic, simple yet elegant. Robyn Roberts also made the bridesmaids dresses.
We both wanted a day that would be fun and relaxed for each and every family member and friend we’d asked to share in our special day. Our expectations were definitely exceeded! The day unfolded without a hitch and we really couldn’t have asked for a more perfect celebration!
I think my most memorable moment was the exchanging of our vows. Even though we were surrounded
by 120 other people, in that very moment, it really did feel like it was just the two of us. It was a very
special and emotional moment for me, one I will treasure forever!
Before we even started looking at venues, we both knew we wanted something where we could have everything at one place – the ceremony, pre-drinks and the reception. Overall look, feel and flow of the venue itself was also very important to us; some sort of water feature was also high on Rob’s list. Rhebokskloof met all of these requirements. We were able to have the beautiful lakeside ceremony, guests then enjoyed their pre-drinks and snacks in the beautiful garden overlooking the lake and the vineyards and the reception followed in the most amazing reception venue which we loved because of its openness as well the “outside” Bedouin tent look and feel it had to it.
We didn’t really have a theme as such but we wanted a very clean and classic look throughout, something that was simple yet elegant. We kept decor clean and simple as I didn’t want the tables to seem cluttered. Lots of candles and fairy lights in the reception venue created the soft, romantic ambience we were looking for. The floral arrangements were all made up of an assortment of white seasonal flowers – Leipzig did our flowers and decor.
Taryn’s Words of Wisdom:
As difficult as it may be to do, especially after many months of meticulous planning and desperately wanting to see everything come together without a hitch, I would encourage brides to just to let go and let things be on the day. Don’t sweat the small stuff and rather spend your time soaking up every second of your special day. You always hear brides telling brides-to be how quickly the day goes by, and it really does, so don’t waste any time stressing about things that are beyond your control. ENJOY your wedding day!
