It’s been a while since i posted a real wedding – this year is racing to an end and to be honest i feel like it’s coming too quickly, what with my real job and I Want That keeping me very busy. This gorgeous wedding features two of my favourite things – lace and button badges – i’m sold! Christo and Grethe went to so much effort to reflect their light hearted approach to life – Grethe’s biggest aim she says was to have fun – and that they did, right down to the biodegradable balloons! I’ve highlighted all the amazing vendors this creative couple used to make their day in a million so very special. And let’s not forget photographer Nastassja Harvey whose fabulous images captured the coiuple’s day so beautifully!

In our dreams, I will be a professional shopaholic and my husband, Christo, will spend all his time fishing, but in reality we try and do this as often as we can when we’re not working! After countless romantic settings where we could have met, we met in a bar through a mutual friend. Of course I wanted the fairy tale, white crystal wedding with rose pedals on the grass and hundreds of colourful balloons and cupcakes, and yes that is exactly what I got! But most of all we wanted to have fun and to share this with family and friends
It was mostly a DIY wedding made possible with the help of our families.
My mom made my dress and the bridesmaids’ dresses and my mother-in-law and sister did the flowers. All of us joined in decorating the venue. The whole family had their tasks and the wedding would not have been possible without them!
The décor was mostly dark wood, white, crystal and lace with chandeliers hanging from the roof. The flowers were provided by Okasie and we used tulips, baby’s breath and crysanths. We hired décor from Styled Functions and To-Netts, also using stuff from home.
Everyone at the wedding got a personalized badge with a cartoon-representation of “the first thing we think of when we think of you.” Everyone wore them and what a conversation starter they were! A personalized photobooth helped with entertainment on the night for guests
We attend a lot of weddings and always find that there is too much food. We decided to have a wide range of canapés and breads, keeping it coming the whole time and not having a starter. Our guests raved about Delsma’s food made by Elizma Smuts. A wedding is all about good food, enough drinks and nice music. That was our motto.
After viewing numerous venues we realised the important role of the owner/wedding planner at the venue. Besides for Delsma Farm being an exquisite venue with the setting, interior, quality of food and their stunning wooden tables and chairs, we received such good service. The owner’s Pieter and Elizma Smuts including Jean-Marie their assistant, are the kind of people you want to plan a wedding with and went the extra mile to help organise the special day we dreamt about. After our first meeting with Pieter we knew, and could easily decide on Delsma Farm!
We had the Hungario trio as part of our entertainment, they were fantastic
Words of Wisdom
I would like to offer my mom, my mother in law and my sister to every bride, but unfortunately they’ve decided to retire after our wedding. Everyone says “don’t sweat the small stuff”, but you only realise the truth in this on the big day when all you notice is the smile on your husband’s face as well as all the guests having a good time. Remember to enjoy the engagement period, because the wedding day is only a few hours long and before you know it is over. Also, remember to set aside 15 minutes during the night, for you and your new husband to get away from everything and take in what is happening. I got this advice prior to our wedding and it was definitely necessary in between spending time with all the guests.
