• On the long weekend i took the Friday off and spent the day hanging with Ms Charley Bird. It was raining so when we’d exhausted the puzzles and books and since she’d decided that her morning sleep was not meant to be (kill me now!), i decided to take a drive. We first went to town to pop into my office and say hello and then we went to Sea Point – to Kleinsky’s Delicatessan which i have been dying to try for ages. I loved it. It’s riiight at the end of Sea Point, on the Bantry Bay side and it’s a real deal Jewish deli – the kind you’d find in New Yawk. I knew i had limited time so i just ordered a bagel and lox (smoked salmon/cream cheese) bagel to go but i was so enjoying the vibe that i ended up sitting down and eating it anyway.

I liked that it was a mix of hipsters as well as a real deal Bobba and people who clearly have made it their local (I even spotted my high school crush’s Dad!)

The interior design is simple and stylish and very now – i love the blackboard – and what’s on it to eat is even better. My friend Sven and his partner Jorge eat there all the time and they swear the Reuben is insanely good!

The barista was very busy – a good sign all you coffee lovers

    My bagel – how delicious?!!

Charley Bird thought it all a total snooze fest.

I’m definitely going to be going back again – either for the chicken soup and matzo balls to take away and slurp in peace at home, the Reuben as suggested by Sven or the chopped liver with egg on which is so up my street.

It is always my first stop for lunch when I come down from Johannesburg! I am a big fan of the classic hot pastrami on rye, but have been hearing a lot about the Reuben so will have to try that on my next trip! Love that place. You must also try the recently opened (if you haven’t already) Jarryds just down the drag. Coffee is the best I’ve had in ages and the food delish.
