• I’ve long been a fan of local creatives Joanna Orr and Sharon Boonzaaier. The pair share a studio and whenever i’ve popped into their space, i’ve always loved the vibe they’ve got going. Sharon is an amazing painter whose work continues to evolve in the most beautiful way every year while Joanna is a whizz at creating African animal trophies under her brand name Head on Design for display at home. They come flatpack or assembled – the flatpack is obviously ideal for heads being shipped overseas and assembled is ideal for people like me who are a bit challenged in the flatpack assembly department.  I have commissioned a few of her kudu heads for clients and i know they look amazing as a centrepiece on a wall and the small wild animal sculptures make fantastic gifts.

Recently Joanna and Sharon collaborated on a project where Sharon painted up some of Joanna’s trophies – and the results are amazing!! I love the intricate patterns that she’s brought to the party and i really think this is a new direction that could work beautifully – i know i would KILL for a Delft Nguni head. Take a look…

If you’re going to the Sanlam Contemporary Handmade Fair this weekend, keep an eye out for these amazing artworks as well as new patterned heads which will also be available online as of next week.
