It was unveiled late last year but I’ve only just now cottoned onto the collaboration between Anglepoise and Paul Smith, and it’s capital G for gorgeous: a stunning interpretation of the classic Anglepoise Type 75 desk lamp (designed in 2004 by Sir Kenneth Grange and the company’s top seller) that has the classic form and function that has made the Anglepoise brand so iconic, with the addition of esteemed British designer Paul Smith’s quintessential signature – vibrant (and in this case clashing) colours that highlight different elements of the lamp.
Bright pink, light pink, olive green, light blue and yellow have been used on each of the sections that make up the aluminium arms, while the shade is off white.
A grey cast-iron base is printed with Smith’s signature, which is also instantly recognisable as his logo.
‘It has been brilliant to work on this project,’ said Smith. ‘Anglepoise is such an iconic piece of British design, I am honoured to have been involved.’
‘Anglepoise, never out of fashion and a product that will last and last, and Paul Smith, a special slant on design with invention, humour and some charming eccentricity: a unique design partnership of two great British companies.’ – Sir Kenneth Grange
