If the styling and interiors from The Grand Budapest Hotel left you feeling slightly giddy, then you’ll want to head straight to MIlan, to Bar Luce, the Anderson-imagined traditional café that’s situated adjacent to (and the result of a collaboration with) the Prada Foundation (Fondazione Prada). The fantastical space is Wes Anderson through and through – old and new are combined to create a new reality that’s a sight to behold.
About the bar, Wes says “While I do think it would make a pretty good movie set, I think it would be an even better place to write a movie. I tried to make it a bar I would want to spend my own non-fictional afternoons in”. Designwise, the seats, formica furniture, floor, veneered wood wall panels and the range of colors are reminiscent of Italian popular culture and aesthetics from the 1950s and 1960s.
