There are a few things I know for certain. I am not likely to ever want to watch another episode of Paw Patrol or Bubble Guppies. Ever. Nothing beats a bowl of pasta (heavy on the gluten) as the ultimate comfort dish. And my house will never be showroom perfect. Part of a home’s charm, in my opinion, are the things that give it an idiosyncratic personality, and one super-effective way of achieving a more casual, characterful look is to opt for a mix-and-match assortment of chairs. You can save yourself mega-bucks by trawling junk shops, buying one-off sale items or scouring sites like Gumtree; you could choose a cool contemporary design in a neutral colour and then throw two or three brights into the mix; combine varying styles including country/farm, upholstered, school chairs and Mid-century Modern; invest (slowly over time) in pieces with a proper design heritage or choose your favourite reproduction classics (go for a mix of wire-style designs and solid, moulded chairs). And don’t forget about stools – they look great juxtaposed against vintage chairs. These ideas should sell you on eclectic seating arrangements. Is it an idea that appeals to you or would you not be able live with the disorder of it all?
