Hi lovelies! I hope you enjoyed the pix of Chloé’s bedroom yesterday! Today is all about my younger stepdaughter, Sarah’s bedroom. Sarah is 14 and like her sister, she wanted ‘some’ plant elements in her room too. She’s much more of a girly girl though and wasn’t averse to a little pink but was clear that it had to be a little and she really wanted some grey geo touches too – so far, so fabulous! Sarah moved into Chloé’s old room and this is what it looked like when it was hers (you’ll recognise the blue headboard).
And here’s what it looks like now…
The biggest change to Sarah’s life was that she got a brand new bed – she’s been upgraded from single bed tween to double bed, too-cool-for-school teen! I ordered a bed off the Dial a Bed website since we didn’t have time to go into store and she isn’t with us all the time so i selected the size (double), the brand (Dunlopillo) and the level of firmness (medium). Easy peasy. Four days later her Dunlopillo Serenity Latex Double Bed Set was delivered! What’s so fabulous about it is the double mattress design – it makes the bed super luxurious despite the really nice price and such a comfy sleep (she went to bed at 8pm on Saturday, she was that excited to sleep in it!) I love online shopping and selling – in fact her old bed was sold on a local furniture sales forum in a few minutes too!
The headboard is an upcycled Gumtree find via their ridiculously useful app, painted in Dulux Grey Steel – it cost me R250 – bargain!! More on the Gumtree process and DIY blogger upcyle projects in Monday’s post.
A new bed needs new linen, right? So it was onto the Mono website for me – i chose the geo triangle design with a hint of pink added to it which i think ups the femininity factor without making it too pretty-pretty. The cushions on Sarah’s bed are a combination of Skinny la Minx lovelies (including one from the new Brise Soleil collection) and the fluffy pink one is from MrP Home.
The dandelion wall tattoo is from My Wall Tattoos and was Sarah’s suggestion. When we put her new bed in the room, it struck me how bare the wall was and she went onto the site and found the dandelion design. Cue a late night mail to Esther from My Wall Tattoos – she turned the tattoo around in less than 18 hours and it looks great!! My Wall Tattoos have so many designs to choose from plus you can also order your own customised vinyl wall stickers which is great for teens who have their own, specific ideas.
Sarah has had my old flokati rug in her bedroom for a while now but when we moved her into her new bedroom it struck me how old and manky it looked – it looked like a mangy old maltese poodle! So i quickly placed an order with Airloom, who you know i absolutely love – they seriously have the BEST and most affordable rugs in South Africa – and for any look and feel too.
She loves fiddling and pottering in her room, so i knew Mono’s pine pegboard above her desk would go down a treat and i’m looking forward to seeing how she fills it! The yellowwood desk was from The Captain’s folks yonks ago and is too special to paint.
This little corner is at the bottom of Sarah’s bed. The pot plant holder was a Mr P buy – it’s metal and i absolutely love it! it comes in a few colours but i think the grey is thebest – and we popped in a plant bought at Stodels Nursery. That butler’s tray is also from Mr P, more than 10 years ago! It’s seen better days but it’s fine for now. I think i’ll replace it with a chest of drawers in due course. The triangular shelves are from – you guessed it, Mono! Sarah is in that in between phase of her life where she’s developing her style and taste and no doubt she’ll fill her shelves with pretties that speak to her soon.
Would love to hear your thoughts on Sarah’s room…hope you like what you see. V xx
PS. We are off to Turkey this afternoon, hooray!! I have some posts planned for next week – including the upcycling projects i did as part of a Gumtree DIY blogger campaign (as well as the winner of the R2000 @home voucher) and will also be on Instagram chronicling our trip! See you on the flip side lovelies!
